Tricolored blackbird itinerant breeding in California
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the abundance of tricolored blackbirds by determining the schedule of breeding throughout California's Central Valley in four years, from 1992-94 and in 1997, indicates that these birds are itinerant breeders. Major geographic regions monitored for tricolored blackbirds were Sacramento Valley, San Joaquin Valley, Sacramento County, Delta and Coastal Plain, and Southern California, with breeding colonies identified throughout the valley during the period.

Changes in King penguin breeding cycle in response to food availability
Article Abstract:
The breeding cycle of King penguins, which breed on sub-Arctic islands, takes between 13-16 months, compared with one calendar year for most other birds. An investigation of the breeding cycle of King penguins between 1991 and 1996 shows how it responds to food availability. It is concluded that breeding timetables change depending upon the availability of food, with reduced availability and bird condition resulting in longer breeding cycles.
