An autosomal factor from Drosophila arizonae restores normal spermatogenesis in Drosophila mojavensis males carrying the D. arizonae Y chromosome
Article Abstract:
The evolution of male hybrid sterility was examined using an introgression experiment in which the Y chromosome of Drosophila (D) arizonae was substituted for that of D mojavensis. These D mojavensis males were found to be sterile, owing to postmeiotic abnormalities caused by the Y chromosome's replacement. However, fertility was restored through co-introgression of sperm motility factor, a genetic material obtained D arizonae's fourth chromosome that segregates as a single Mendelian unit.

The mog-1 gene is required for the switch from spermatogenesis to oogenesis in Caenorhabditis elegans
Article Abstract:
The gene, mog-1, functions as regulator of the sperm/oocyte switch in the hermaphrodite germ line of Caenorhabditis elegans in addition to its role in embryogenesis. The relationship between its roles in the spermatogenesis-oogenesis switch and embryogenesis is investigated. Analysis showed that mog-1 acts in the post-transcriptional regulation of germ-line RNAs. Thus, a loss of mog-1 activates fem-3 and prevents the sperm/oocyte switch.

Localization and characterization of X chromosome inversion breakpoints separating Drosophila mojavensis and Drosophila arizonae
Article Abstract:
The inversion of X-chromosome in Drosophila that distinguish D.mojavensis from D.arizonae have specific breakpoints. The localization of these breakpoints helps in genetic and evolutionary studies of Drosophila species.
