Binding of pumilio to maternal hunchback mRNA is required for posterior patterning in Drosophila embryos
Article Abstract:
A study of the pathways of hunchback (hb) translation regulation through an analysis of the embryonic extract factors that link to NRE sequences reveals that the nanos gene suppresses the hb maternal transcript translation to regulate posterior patterning in Drosophila. Two proteins from embryo extracts exhibit in vitro binding to NRE, which is related to in vivo NRE function. The pumilio gene that is required for abdominal segmentation codes for one of the NRE-binding factors.

Developmental regulation of vesicle transport in Drosophila embryos: forces and kinetics
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to study in vivo organelle transport in Drosophila embryos. Droplet motion was visualized using video-enhanced microscopy while syncytial blastoderm and cellularizing embryos were collected, fixed, stained and embedded for electron microscopy. Results indicated multiple roles for klar-based transport and showed that alterations in organelle transport influenced motion in both apical and basal directions of Drosophila embryos.

Interactions between the nod+ kinesin-like gene and extracentromeric sequences are required for transmission of a Drosophila minichromosome
Article Abstract:
The nod+, a kinesin-like gene needed for the meiotic transmission of achiasmate chromosome, helps in the transmission of the Drosophila minichromosome Dp1187. The chromosome transmission develops forces outside the kinetochore for the attachment of achiasmate chromosome to the metaphase spindle. The nod interactions are seen at a region which is not required for centromere function.
