Biochemical and proteomic analysis of the magnetosome membrane in Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense
Article Abstract:
Prokaryotes are known to build more or less complex subcellular structures described as inclusions, and analysis of many such structures show a great degree of intracellular differentiation and among the most different examples of subcellular structures are magnetosomes formed by magnetotactic bacteria (MTB). The biochemical composition of magnetosome membrane (MM) of Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense is analyzed.

Transcriptional organization and regulation of magnetosome operons in 'Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense
Article Abstract:
Synthesis of magnetosomes is the basis of magnetic orientation in magnetotactic bacteria. A study was conducted to analyze the transcriptional organization of the magnetosome gene clusters in 'Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense' and putative promoter structures, which govern the transcription of long polycistronic operons of 'mam and mms' genes, were identified.

A large gene cluster encoding several magnetosome proteins is conserved in different species of magnetotactic bacteria
Article Abstract:
Researchers have discovered a group of genes in Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense that encode proteins involved in magnetosome formation. The proteins are homologous to tetratricopeptide repeat proteins, cation diffusion facilitators, and HtrA-like serine proteases. However, some bear no resemblance to any known protein.
