Biodegradation of a synthetic lubricant by Micrococcus roseus
Article Abstract:
The utilization of Micrococcus roseus for the biodegradation of synthetic lubricants is discussed. Experiments involve the selective enrichment of a synthetic ester-based lubricant, oxygen uptake studies, measurement of esterase activity and metabolite extraction and identification. It was found that cleavage of the ester bonds is the first step in the degradation of ester in the supernatant of cultures.

Variacin, a new lanthionine-containing bacteriocin produced by Micrococcus varians: comparison to lacticin 481 of Lactococcus lactis
Article Abstract:
Two strains of Micrococcus varians are isolated from meat fermentations to produce a new lanthionine-containing bacteriocin. The bacteriocin, called variacin, exhibits a broad range of inhibition against gram-positive food spoilage bacteria. It is also resistant to heat and pH conditions from two to 10. The primary sequence of variacin is similar to that of lacticin 481 of Lactococcus lactis.

Biodegradation of natural rubber and related compounds: Recent insights into a hardly understood catabolic capability of microorganisms
Article Abstract:
Natural rubber and other natural polyisoprenoids are the only biopolymers whose cleavage by enzymes is still mostly unknown. However, a considerable progress is made in the understanding of microbial rubber degradation.
