CREB as a memory modulator: induced expression of a dCREB2 activator isoform enhances long-term memory in Drosophila
Article Abstract:
The creation of protein synthesis-dependent long term memory (LTM) is stopped by a repressor isoform's induced expression, or improved by an activator isoform's induced expression. The isoforms are from a cAMP-responsive element-binding protein (CREB). The genetic study for memory formation is made on the Drosophila, which required a number of training sessions. The formation of LTM depends on an activator transgene's phosphorylation, and induced activation improved LTM after one training.

Cell recognition, signal induction, and symmetrical gene activation at the dorsal-ventral boundary of the developing Drosophila wing
Article Abstract:
The dorsally expressed apterous gene-regulated proteins Serrate (Ser) and fringe (fer) play characteristic roles in cell recognition and signal induction processes during formation in Drosophila. Ser initiates the expression of wing- and margin-patterning genes along the dorsal-ventral boundary, while fng acts as a boundary-specifying molecule. The implications of fng and Ser in other tissues and during other developmental stages are discussed.

An unusual mosaic protein with a protease domain, encoded by the nudel gene, is involved in defining embryonic dorsoventral polarity in Drosophila
Article Abstract:
The nudel protein contributes to the positional information required during oogenesis for characterizing embryonic dorsoventral polarity after fertilization by acting as the spatial organizer of the protein cascade. The nudel gene, expressed in follicle cells encapsulating the Drosophila oocyte, encodes the unusual mosaic protein with a central serine protease domain.
