Characterization of IS2112, a new insertion sequence from Rhodococcus, and its relationship with mobile elements belonging to the IS110 family
Article Abstract:
A new insertion sequence (IS2112) was found in the genome of the 1-haloalkane-utilizing bacterium Rhodococcus rhodochrous NCIMB 13064. The insertion element is 1,415 bp long, has no terminal inverted repeats and ins not flanked by directly repeated sequences. IS2112 is a member of the IS110 family of transposable elements, and forms a separate subfamily, together with IS116. An examination of derivatives of NCIMB 13064 indicated that IS2112 participates in genome rearrangements.

Cloning of new Rhodococcus extradiol dioxygenase genes and study of their distribution in different Rhodococcus strains
Article Abstract:
The genus Rhodococcus contains species that are able to degrade aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Naphthalene, cresol and chloro alkanes are among the hydrocarbons that strains from this genus are able to degrade. The dioxygenase genes in Rhodococcus are cloned and sequenced to determine the diversity of the gene in this genus. Six strains were used in the investigation and results indicate that the dioxygenase gene is widely distributed in the Rhodococcus genus.

Web-type evolution of Rhodococcus gene clusters associated with utilization of naphthalene
Article Abstract:
The analysis of the clusters of genes, which include determinants for the catalytic subunits of naphthalene dioxygenase, is presented in naphthalene-degrading Rhodococcus strains. The results suggested that the plasmid locations of the naphthalene degradation determinants analyzed are consistent with the apparent widespread exchange of genetic material in nar regions.
