Characterization of lipopolysaccharides present in settled house dust
Article Abstract:
Results show that longer-chain 3-hydroxy fatty acids are predominan in house dust than that of short-chain acids, but the latter are associated with the endotoxin activity. Furthermore, kitchen dust contains the highest short-chain 3-hydroxy fatty acids and the highest endotoxin activities, whereas the bed dust mostly contained long-chain 3-hydroxy fatty acids, the highest lipopolysaccharides.

Characterization of UVC light sensitivity of vaccinia virus
Article Abstract:
The characterization of the susceptibility of an important orthopoxvirus to upper-room 254-nm germicidal UV (UVC) exposure is presented. It provides an essential scientific basis for the design of effective upper-room UVC installations for the prevention of airborne infection transmission of smallpox virus.

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay specific for (1 to 6) branched, (1 to 3)-beta-D-glucan detection in environmental samples
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe an assay that can detect (1 to 6) branched, (1 to 3)-beta-D-glucans in environmental samples. These microbial compounds can cause an inflammatory reaction in the respiratory tract if inhaled.
