Chitinolytic Enterobacter agglomerans antagonistic to fungal plant pathogens
Article Abstract:
Enterobacter agglomerans strains whose only carbon source is colloidal chitin produce enzymes which dissolve the chitin present in the fungal cell wall and these strains can thus biologically control fungal plant pathogens. Four such chitinolytic enzymes have been isolated from three Enterobacter strains. The antifungal activity depends on the bacteria's ability to produce these enzymes because strains which do not produce these enzymes but possess antibiotic or proteolytic capability are as ineffective as strains where all three properties are absent.

Trichoderma mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling is involved in induction of plant systemic resistance
Article Abstract:
The role of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) TmkA in inducing systematic resistance in cucumber against the bacterial pathogens Pseudomonas syringae pv. lacrymans was investigated by using TmkA loss-of-function mutants of Trichoderma virens. The results showed that Trichoderma TmkA MAPK was not involved in limited root colonization unlike in many plant-pathogen interactions.
