Chlorine inactivation of bacterial bioterrorism agents
Article Abstract:
The Ct values for 2-log and 3-log inactivation of seven species (11 isolates) on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) list of category A and B potential bioterrorism agents is determined. It is found that under test conditions, the free available chlorine (FAC) routinely maintained in potable water would be sufficient to reduce six species by 2 orders of magnitude within 10 minutes.

Survival of Yersinia pestis on environmental surfaces
Article Abstract:
Results show that Yersinia pestis in phosphate buffer survive for 2 to 4 hours on stainless steel, polyethylene, or glass and 48 hours or more on paper. Cells in brain heart infusion broth are viable for more than 72 hours on stainless steel, polyethylene, and glass and some persisted beyond 120 hours on paper.

Survival of Burkholderia pseudomallei on environmental surfaces
Article Abstract:
The culture and esterase activity analyses are used for measuring the survival of the biothreat agent Burkholderia pseudomallei on the surfaces of four materials. The persistence determined by the analysis of esterase activity is shown to be longer than the persistence determined by cultural analysis.
