Chromosome motion in mitosis
Article Abstract:
Laser photobleaching experiments demonstrate that kinetochore disassembly causes the shortening of stationary kinetochore fiber microtubules during mitotic anaphase, afterwhich chromosomes move toward the spindle equator in metaphase. These kinetochore movements are mediated by cytoplasmic dynein located in their fibrous corona, and kinesin which causes minus and plus-end directed movements, respectively. Microtubule assembly and disassembly processes also contribute to chromosomal movement force generation.

Shugoshin and PP2A, shared duties at the centromere
Article Abstract:
The Shugoshin (Sgo) family of proteins plays a vital role in protection of centromeric cohesion in mitosis and meiosis from yeast to man, which is accomplished by recruiting the serine/threonine protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) to centromeres. It is found that Sgo binds a fraction of PP2A, that the two proteins colocalize at the centromere from prophase to anaphase and that they both are required for preventing precocious separation of the sister chromatids.

Shugoshin: A centromeric guardian senses tension
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate the precise role of the shugoshin1 protein (Sgo1p) in mitosis process in budding yeast. The result identifies Sgo1 as a component that informs the mitotic spindle checkpoint when spindle tension is perturbed.
