Circadian gene expression in individual fibroblasts: Cell-autonomous and self-sustained oscillators pass time to daughter cells
Article Abstract:
The study presented used two reporter systems to monitor circadian gene expression in NIH3T3 mouse fibroblasts in real time and in individual cells. In conjunction with mathematical modeling and cell co-culture experiments, the data demonstrated that in vitro cultured fibroblasts harbor self-sustained and cell-autonomous circadian clocks similar to those operative in suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) neurons.

Differential display of DNA-binding proteins reveals heat-shock factor 1 as a circadian transcription factor
Article Abstract:
A novel technique of differential display of DNA-binding proteins (DDDP) is developed to screen mouse liver nuclear extract in order to see DNA binding of heat-shock factor 1. Results showed that this new screening method of DDDP not only identifies circadian transcription factors but are applied to discover novel transcriptional regulators in various biological systems.

PIAS1 confers DNA-binding specificity on the Msx1 homeoprotein
Article Abstract:
A report reveals that PIAS1 confers DNA-binding specificity on the Msx1homeoprotein by regulating its subnuclear localization and proximity to target genes. It is shown that PIAS1 is required for the appropriate localization and retention of Msx1 at the nuclear periphery in myoblast cells.
