Clostridium perfringens and somatic coliphages as indicators of the efficiency of drinking water treatment for viruses and protozoan cysts
Article Abstract:
Samples obtained from three water treatment plants by using treatments such as ozonation and biological filtration showed that all the samples contained Clostridium perfringens correlated with human enteric viruses, Giardia lamblia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts. The somatic coliphage counts were the only variable for the human enteric virus counts in settled water. Clostridium perfringens counts appear to be the ideal indicator for the inactivation and elimination of viruses, cysts and oocysts in drinking water treatment.

Esterase electrophoretic polymorphism of human and animal strains of Clostridium perfringens
Article Abstract:
Atechnique for differentiating isolates for the better understanding of the epidemiological aspects of various pathogenic situations is discussed. Polyacrylamide-agarose gel electrophoresis were used to characterize esterase electrophoretic polymorphism in human and animal strains of Clostridium perfringens. The utility of esterase electrophoretic typing for isolate characterization was demonstrated.

Large-scale population structure of human commensal Escherichia coli isolates
Article Abstract:
The analyses of various Escherichia coli intestinal commensal isolates per individual in 265 healthy human subjects belonging to seven populations distributed worldwide showed that the E. coli population is highly structures, with major differences between the tropical and temperate populations.
