Combinatorial biosynthesis of antitumor deoxysugar pathways in Streptomyces griseus: Reconstitution of "unnatural natural gene clusters" for the biosynthesis of four 2,6-D-dideoxyhexoses
Article Abstract:
Combinatorial biosynthesis was applied to reconstitute 'unnatural natural gene clusters' for the biosynthesis of four D-deoxysugars to provide Streptomyces the capability to synthesize the four D-deoxysugars. It was found that constructed gene clusters were used to increase the capabilities of microorganisms to synthesize new deoxysugars to produce new glycosylated bioactive compounds.

Isolation, characterization, and heterologous expression of the biosynthesis gene cluster for the antitumor anthracycline steffimycin
Article Abstract:
The biosynthetic gene cluster for the aromatic polyketide steffimycin of the anthracycline family was cloned and characterized from 'Streptomyces steffisburgensis' NRRL 3193. Sequence analysis of a 42.8-kbp DNA region revealed the 36 open reading frames (ORFs) (one of them incomplete), 24 of which spanning 26.5 kb, are probably involved in steffimycin biosynthesis.

Deoxysugar transfer during chromomycin A(sub 3) biosynthesis in Streptomyees griseus subsp. griseus: New derivatives with antitumor activity

A study was conducted on the biosynthesis of chromomycin A(sub 3), produced by Streptomyces griseus and other streptomycete species, using the antitumor properties of an antitumor drug. It was observed that a biosynthetic pathway was proposed for the glycosylation events in chromomycin A(sub 3) biosynthesis.
