Competition for dimethyl sulfide and hydrogen sulfide by Methylophaga sulfidovorans and Thiobacillus thioparus T5 in continuous cultures
Article Abstract:
Competition for dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and the sulfide formed as an intermediate in DMS oxidation in Methylophaga sulfidovorans and Thiobacillus thioparus T5 is studied. Results of the study show both bacterial strains can coexist together if they are grown solely on DMS. The compound is reduced to thiosulfate by M. sulfidovorans and the thiosulfate is reduced by T. thioparus T5. Both microbes were isolated from microbial mat sediments with similar substrates.

Biosorption of copper by a bacterial biofilm on a flexible polyvinyl chloride conduit
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the technologies efficient for countering economic restraints to pollution control. The evaluation of these technologies via laboratory-scale biotreatment process for copper-containing effluent has been carried out and the results are discussed.

The viable-but-nonculturable condition is induced by copper in Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Rhizobium leguminosarum
Article Abstract:
Copper can induce the viable-but-nonculturable state in Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Rhizobium leguminosarum. A change in the environment usually causes this state. This is the first known chemical inducer of the state.
