Conservation of ornamental stone by Myxococcus xanthus-induced carbonate biomineralization
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that Myxococcus xanthus-induced calcium carbonate precipitation protects ornamental limestone from environmental pollution. Data indicate that the carbonate cements calcite grains by epitaxial growth on preexisting calcite grains without plugging the holes of the porous limestones. The carbonate crystals are organic-inorganic composites and stress resistant.

Metal reduction and ion biomineralization by a psychrotolerant Fe(III)-reducing bacterium, Shewanella sp. strain PV-4
Article Abstract:
Metal reduction and iron biomineralization by a marine psychrotolerant, dissimilatory Fe(III)-reducing bacterium, Shewanella sp. strain PV-4, from the microbial mat at a hydrothermal vent of Loihi Seamount in the Pacific Ocean are characterized. The results have shown that strain PV-4 has unique physiological characteristics and is transferable by conjugation.

Precipitation of barite by Myxococcus xanthus: possible implications for the biogeochemical cycle of barium
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on Myxococcus xanthus. The authors describe barite's bacterial precipitation under laboratory conditions, and suggest that the bacterium may be involved in barium biogeochemical cycle which is related to the carbon cycle.
