Generation of antibodies reactive with fumonisins B1, B2, and B3 by using cholera toxin as the carrier-adjuvant
Article Abstract:
Murine fumonisin polyclonal antibodies were generated after an innovative immunization process that used cholera toxin as hapten carrier protein and adjuvant. In this study, mice were immunized with multiple doses of fumonisins B1-cholera toxin conjugates using intraperitoneal, subcutaneous and intravenous routes. Results showed significant production of fumonisin antibodies in ascites fluid by using cholera toxin as a carrier-adjuvant when compared to conventional immunization with fumonisin B1-bovine serum albumin conjugates. These antibodies can be used in the enzyme-linked immmunosorbent assay for fumonisins.

Production of polyclonal antibodies to the trichothecene mycotoxin 4,15-diacetylnivalenol with the carrier-adjuvant cholera toxin
Article Abstract:
The production of rabbit and mouse polyclonal antibodies for the trichothecene mycotoxin 4,15-diacetylnivalenol (DNIV) was reported. DNIV was conjugated to cholera toxin (CT) in the immunization procedure. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay revealed that the antibodies were highly specific for DNIV. The results suggest that polyclonal antibodies can be prepared against a trichotecene when CT is used as a carrier and adjuvant protein.

FUM9 is required for C-5 hydroxylation of fumonisins and complements the meitotically defined Fum3 locus in Gibberella moniliformis
Article Abstract:
Deletion of the Gibberella moniliformis FUM9 gene resulted in mutants that produce only fumonisins that lack a C-5 hydroxyl group. The results indicate that FUM9 protein catalyzes the C-5 hydroxylation of fumonisins and that FUM9 and the Fum3 locus is the same gene.
