Construction of a Co1D cda promoter-based SOS-green fluorescent protein whole-cell biosensor with higher sensitivity toward genotoxic compounds than constructs based on recA, umuDC, or sulA promoters
Article Abstract:
The sensitivity of individual SOS promoters toward genotoxic substances is evaluated using four different green fluorescent protein (GFP)-based whole-cell biosensors. A new SOS-GFP whole-cell biosensor which is not only able to detect minute levels of genotoxins, but due to its use of the green fluorescent protein, also a reporter system which should be applicable in high-throughout screening as well as a wide variety of in situ detection studies is presented.

Effect of tetracycline on transfer and establishment of the tetracycline-inducible conjugative transposon Tn916 in the guts of gnotobiotic rats
Article Abstract:
The transfer of Tn916 among strains of Enterococcus faecalis OCGI found in the intestines of gnotobiotic rats was investigated. Studies show that selection of resistant phototype was a factor that causes high quantities of transconjugants and tetracycline-depleted microhabitats in the intestines was also noticed.

Conjugative transfer facilitates stable maintenance of IncP-1 plasmid pKJK5 in Escherichia coli cells colonizing the gastrointestinal tract of the germfree rat
Article Abstract:
The gastrointestinal tracts of germfree rats were found to contain Escherichia coli with the plasmid (IncP-1) containing genes for tetracycline resistance. The ability of stable maintenance of the plasmid was studied using the technique of cytometry.
