Contingency locus in ctsR of Listeria monocytogenes Scott A: A strategy for occurrence of abundant piezotolerant isolates within clonal populations
Article Abstract:
The association of the mutations in the class 3 heat shock regulator gene ctsR with piezotolerance in Listeria monocytogenes is examined. The analysis highlights the importance of ctsR in peizotolerance and stress tolerance of L. monocytogenes and also shows that short-sequence repeat regions contribute significantly to the occurrence of a piezotolerane and stress-tolerant subpopulation within L. monocytogenes cultures, thus playing an important role in survival.

Caenorhabditis elegans is a model host for Listeria monocytogenes
Article Abstract:
A report that the Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes fed Listeria monocytogenes die over the course of several days, as a consequence of an accumulation of bacteria in the worm intestine is presented. However, ActA, which are required for actin-based intracellular motility, appear, to be dispensable during infection of C. elegans, indicating that L. monocytogenes remains extracellular in C. elegans.

Absence of serotype-specific surface antigen in laboratory variants of epidemic-associated Listeria monocytogenes strains
Article Abstract:
Variants of epidemic clone I and epidemic clone II strains of serotype 4b were analyzed. Results concluded that these variants can arise and become unknowingly established in other serotype 4b strains.
