Conversion of a gene-specific repressor to a regional silencer
Article Abstract:
A gene-specific repressor in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and its conversion to a regional silencer are discussed. Study has found that mutant Sum1-1p, but not wild-type Sum1p, associated directly with HM loci. Sum1-1p and Hst1p could substitute for sit proteins to achieve silencing through formation of a compositionally distinct type of heterochromatin.

The nucleotides responsible for the direct physical contact between the chromatin insulator protein CTCF and the H19 imprinting control region manifest parent origin-specific long-distance insulation and methylation-free domains
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on nucleotide point mutations. Results demonstrate that when the nucleotides are in physical contact with CTCF within endogenous H19 ICR these point mutations lead to loss of CTCF binding and Igf2 imprinting only when they passage through female germline.

Molecular basis for the discrimination of repressive methyl-lysine marks in histone H3 by Polycomb and HP1 chromodomains
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on chromodomain proteins Polycomb and heterochromatin protein 1. The authors demonstrate that these proteins are highly discriminatory for binding to histone H3 tail methylation sites both in vivo and in vitro.
