Decrease in Cryptosporidium parvum oocyst infectivity in vitro by using the membrane filter dissolution method for recovering oocysts from water samples
Article Abstract:
Capturing Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in water using the cellulose acetate membrane dissolution filtration system can render the oocysts non-infective. This would make it difficult for researchers to determine the viability of the oocysts.

Phosphorus-31 nuclear magnetic resonance study of the effect of pentachlorophenol (PCP) on the physiologies of PCP-degrading microorganisms
Article Abstract:
Pre-treatment of Sphingomonas sp. isolates UG25 and UG30 with pentachlorophenol (PCP) enables the bacteria to degrade higher levels of the pollutant. Pre-treated strains maintained their transmembrane pH gradient and ATP levels in the presence of high levels of PCP, unlike non-treated strains.

Genetic relatedness of Escherichia coli isolates in interstitial water from a Lake Huron (Canada) beach
Article Abstract:
A research study was carried out to characterize Escherichia coli isolates in interstitial water samples of a sandy beach on the southeastern shore of Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada. The survey identified a unique ecological niche within the foreshore area of the beach where Escherichia coli might survive and possibly multiply outside of host organisms, which might explain the increasing concentrations of Escherichia coli in recreational waters, often considered being an indication of fecal pollution.
