Degradation of 4-fluorobiphenyl by mycorrhizal fungi as determined by 19F nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and 14C radiolabelling analysis
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the pathways of biotransformation of 4-fluorobiphenyl by the ectomycorrhizal fungus Tylospora fibrilosa and other mycorrhizal fungi via combined 19F nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and 14C radioisotope-detected high-performance liquid chromatography. It was confirmed that 4-fluorobiphen-4'-ol and 4-fluorobiphen-3'-ol were two of the major products formed. No proof was provided for the expected biotransformation pathway since none of the expected products of the route were found.

Article Abstract:
An investigation conducted to demonstrate whether or not arbuscular mycorrhizas fungi (AMF) can transport radiocesium from soil to plants is discussed. The implications of the findings for the bioavailability of radiocesium in different terrestrial ecosystems are described.

Carbon transfer from four plant species to the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Glomus intraradices is measured by estimating (super 13)C enrichment of 16:1omega5. Plant assimilates for (super 13)C is labeled using (super 13)CO2 in whole-plant experiments.
