Bifidobacterial diversity in human feces detected by genus-specific PCR and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis
Article Abstract:
Researchers amplified a 520-bp fragment from 16S ribosomal DNA of Bifidoacterium and then separated the fragments using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. This technique was used to identify Bifidobacterium species in human fecal samples.

Development and application of a selective PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis approach to detect a recently cultivated Bacillus group predominant in soil
Article Abstract:
A culture-independent 16S rRNA gene-targeted denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) finger printing protocol was developed for the detection of Bacillus benzoevorans related bacteria from soil samples. This molecular approach was complemented with cultivation of isolates from several European locations that indicated the presence and sometimes abundance of this interesting group of microbes.

Temperature gradient gel electrophoresis analysis of 16S rRNA from human fecal samples reveals stable and host-specific communities of active bacteria
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the diversity of predominant bacteria in the human gastrointestinal tract. 16S rRNA-based approaches were utilized to carry out the analysis. Different profiles were determined using temperature gradient gel electrophoresis. Results indicated the effectiveness of the combination of cloning and temperature gradient gel electrophoresis analysis in evaluating rDNA amplicons and observing microbial communities in feces.
