Differential activities of the RET tyrosine kinase receptor isoforms during mammalian embryogenesis
Article Abstract:
The RET tyrosine kinase receptor isoforms and differential activities in mammalian embryogenesis are discussed. Targeted mutagenesis was used to generate mice that express RET9 or RET51. Some RET9 transgenes can rescue kidney agenesis in RET-deficient mice or can cause kidney hypodysplasia in wild-type animals. Mice without RET9 lack enteric ganglia from the colon. Human mutations of c-RET bring on Hirschsprung's disease.

Dynamic regulatory interactions of Polycomb group genes: MEDEA autoregulation is required for imprinted gene expression in Arabidopsis
Article Abstract:
The imprinted Arabidopsis Polycomb group (PcG) gene MEDEA (MEA), which is homologous to Enhancer of Zeste [E(Z)], is maternally required for normal seed development. It is shown that unlike known mammalian imprinted genes, MEA regulates its own imprinted expression by down-regulating the maternal allele around fertilization and maintaining the paternal allele silent later during seed development.

ABP1 is required for organized cell elongation and division in Arabidopsis embryogenesis
Article Abstract:
ABP1, a putative auxin receptor, has been found to be necessary for organized cell elongation and division in Arabidopsis embryogenesis. A reverse genetic approach has been used to identify and characterize ABP1 mutant alleles in the plant to look at the function of ABP1.
