Dissimilatory arsenate and sulfate reduction in sediments of two hypersaline, arsenic-rich soda lakes: Mono and Searles Lakes, California
Article Abstract:
A radioisotope method was developed to study bacterial respiratory reduction of arsenate in sediments in two arsenic rich soda lakes in California. Profiles of arsenate reduction and sulfate reduction were constructed for both lakes. Reduction of arsenate occurred at all depth intervals in the cores form Mono Lake and Searles Lake, however, in contrast, sulfate reduction was measurable in Mono Lake but not in Searles Lake.

Biodegradation processes in a laboratory-scale groundwater contaminant plume assessed by fluorescence imaging and microbial analysis
Article Abstract:
Fluorescence imaging and microbial analysis were used to assess biodegradation processes in a laboratory scale groundwater contaminant plume. The results showed that plume behavior can be best described by growth and decay of active biomass as a single functional group of organisms represented by active cell counts.
