Diversity and characterization of sulfate-reducing bacteria in groundwater at a uranium mill tailings site
Article Abstract:
Desulfotomaculum and Desulfotomaculum-like bacteria were the predominate organisms in groundwater at a uranium mill tailings site. This could indicate that this organism can bioremediate uranium-contaminated sites.

Microbiological and geochemical heterogeneity in an in situ uranium bioremediation field site
Article Abstract:
The geochemistry and microbiology of a uranium-contaminated subsurface environment that had undergone two season of acetate addition to stimulate microbial U(VI) reduction is examined. The substantial microbial and geochemical heterogeneity demonstrates that attempts should be made to deliver acetate in a more uniform manner and that closely spaced sampling intervals, horizontally and vertically in both sediment and groundwater are necessary to obtain a more in-depth knowledge of microbial processes.

Microbial population changes during bioremediation of an experimental oil spill
Article Abstract:
Bioremediation of oil spills is characterized by a shift in the population of microorganisms toward gram-negative bacteria from the alpha-Proteobacteria and the Flexibacter-Cytophaga-Bacteroides phylum. This was the conclusion of a study of a field experiment simulating a coastal oil spill.
