Diversity and distribution of DNA sequences with affinity to ammonia-oxidizing bacteria of the beta subdivision of the class Proteobacteria in the Arctic Ocean
Article Abstract:
Spatial distribution and diversity of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria of the beta subdivision of the class Proteobacteria, or ammonia oxidizers, in the Arctic Ocean have been studied. Results indicate that it is likely that the Arctic Ocean beta-proteobacterial ammonia oxidizers have low diversity. They seem to be dominated by marine Nitrosospira-like organisms. Diversity is apparently higher in Western parts of the ocean where influence of inflow from the Pacific Ocean through the Bering and Chukchi seas is seen.

Phylogenetic composition of Arctic Ocean archael assemblages and comparison with Antarctic assemblages
Article Abstract:
Researchers have always known about the presence of Archaea in Antarctic waters but very little is known of their presence in the Arctic Ocean. The physical environments of the two oceans are different, making it difficult to come to a conclusion on the exact quantity of assemblages.
