A genetic link between morphogenesis and cell division during formation of the ventral furrow in Drosophila
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the mechanism of cell shape change coordination. The experiments with the mitotic inhibitor that acts during Drosophila gastrulation are described.

Hairy and emc negatively regulate morphogenetic furrow progression in the Drosophila eye
Article Abstract:
Two helix-loop-helix transcriptional regulatory proteins function together in Drosophila eye development. These proteins, extra macrochaetae (emc) and hairy (h), are negative regulators of morphogenetic furrow progression and neuronal differentiation. This was suggested by experiments with clones lacking emc and h, in which the morphogenetic furrow and differentiated eye field advanced faster than in wild-type tissue.

Localization of centromere function in a Drosophila minichromosome
Article Abstract:
A study localizes the centromere function in a Drosophila minichromosome Dp1187. The analyses of the transmission behavior of Dp117 identified sequences necessary for chromosome inheritance within the centric heterochromatin. The vital sector of the centromere is incorporated within a 220kb region which also includes significant amounts of complex DNA. Completely normal inheritance also needs an equivalent of 200kb on either side of the essential core. This flanking DNA contains highly repeated sequences.
