EGF Receptor and Notch signaling act upstream of Eyeless/Pax6 to control eye specification
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the Drosophila compound eye, specified by the concerted action of nuclear factors including Eyeless/Pax6. Results indicate that eye specification occurs in the second larval stage and that the EGF Receptor and Notch signaling pathways are genetically upstream of the eye specification gene homeotic functions.

Smoothened mutants reveal reduntant roles for Shh and Inn signaling including regulation of L/R asymmetry by the mouse node
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the Drosophila. The results of its genetic analysis have demonstrated the importance of the multipass membrane protein Smoothened for the Hedgehog signaling within the mouse node required for the Gdf1 activation, and for the left/right determinants induction.

Growth and specification: fly Pax6 homologs eyegone and eyeless have distinct functions
Article Abstract:
The studies indicate that in fly eye, a Pax6 homolog controls eye specification together with several other genes. The signaling pathways controlling pattern and growth in mice and humans are discussed.
