Ecological significance of microdiversity: identical 16S rRNA gene sequences can be found in bacteria with highly divergent genomes and ecophysiologies
Article Abstract:
Eleven different Brevundimonas alba strains with identical 16S rRNA gene sequences were isolated and analyzed with respect to their genomic and physiological diversities, their growth in situ and their ecological niches. The results have implications for assessment of the diversity and biogeography of bacteria and increase of natural diversity beyond the level of 16S rRNA gene sequences.

Separation of bacterial cells by isoelectric focusing, a new method for analysis of complex microbial communities
Article Abstract:
Mixtures of bacterial cells from strains Chlorobium limicola 6230, Pseudomonas stutzeri DSM 50227 and Micrococcus luteus DSM 20030 have been separated by an isoelectric focusing method using an electric field of 11.5 V per cm. The analysis of bacterial communities can be easily done using the method since it enriches bacterial cells that could be used further in other cultivation tests.

Subfossil 16S rRNA gene sequences of green sulfur bacteria in the Black Sea and their implications for past photic zone anoxia
Article Abstract:
Two sediment cores retrieved from the Black Sea are analyzed for the presence of subfossil DNA sequences of Chlorobium sp. strain BS-1 by using ancient-DNA methodology. The results have shown that a considerable fraction of green sulfur bacterial chemofossils has not originated in a low-light marine chemocline environment and might have an allochthonous origin.
