Ectoplasmic specialization: A friend or a foe of spermatogenesis?
Article Abstract:
The mechanisms maintaining the cross-talk between the ectoplasmic specialization (ES) and blood-testis barrier to facilitate cell movement and orientation in the seminiferous epithelium are discussed. The results have shown that ES is a friend of spermatogenesis in good times under normal physiological conditions, but when the testis is under assault from toxic substances the ES turns into a foe of spermatogenesis, making the testis more vulnerable than other organs.

The structure and synthesis of the fungal cell wall
Article Abstract:
The structure and biosynthesis of a fungal cell wall is unique to the fungi and hence it is considered to be an excellent target for the development of antifungal drugs. The studies have provided strong evidence that the chitin, glucans and glycoproteins are covalently cross-linked together and that the cross-linking is a dynamic process that occurs extracellularly.

The quest for the function of simple epithelial keratins
Article Abstract:
Simple epithelial keratins K8 and K18 had remain conserved but their function does not appear to be entirely mechanical as they contribute to cellular reinforcement. These simple epithelial keratins had retained early features that may protect the internal epithelia form a broader range of stresses, including osmotic stress and chemical toxicity.
