Effect of oxidation rate and Fe(II) state on microbial nitrate-dependent Fe(III) mineral formation
Article Abstract:
The characterization of a Klebsiella species from a nitrate- and radio-nuclide-contaminated aquifer that is capable of anaerobic, nitrate-dependent Fe(II) oxidation is reported. Characterization of products revealed that as Fe(II) oxidation rates slowed, a stronger goethite signal is observed by X-ray diffraction and a larger proportion of Fe(III) is in the crystalline fraction.

Evidence for iron-dependent nitrate respiration in the dissimilatory iron-reducing bacterium Geobacter metallireducens
Article Abstract:
Increasing the iron content of the medium will allow Geobacter metallireducens to grow on freshwater-acetate nitrate medium. It also increases growth three-fold, increases cytochrome c content seven-fold, increases nitrate reductase activity about five-fold and increases nitrite reductase activity 70-fold.

Sinorhizobium meliloti cells require biotin and either cobalt or methionine for growth
Article Abstract:
Biotin and cobalt or methionine appear to be a requirement of all strains of Sinorhizobium meliloti, according to researches who tested 27 different strains. This illustrates the existence of a vitamin B(sub 12)-dependent homocysteine methyltransferase for methionine biosynthesis.
