Effects of chemical speciation in growth media on the toxicity of mercury (II)
Article Abstract:
The effects of soluble organics on the acute toxicity of mercury(II) to a Pseudomonas fluorescens isolate in chemically defined growth media was investigated. It was found that the medium composition had a significant effect on the toxicity of Hg(II). There was a positive correlation between the 50% inhibitory concentration and the mole fractions of free Ca2+ and Mg2+ in the media, suggesting that these ions have a moderating effect on the toxicity of Hg(II).

Seasonal changes in the rhizosphere microbial communities associated with field-grown genetically modified canola (Brassica napus)
Article Abstract:
The differences between the rhizosphere microbial community associated with the transgenic plants and those associated with the conventional canola plant are identified. The study suggests that in the Canadian agricultural system, in which plants are harvested in early fall and senescent plant roots are left over a long winter season, any differences in the microbial communities associated with transgenic plants are minimized or eliminated.

Mycorrhizal and rhizobial colonization of genetically modified and conventional soybeans
Article Abstract:
Multiple genetically modified and conventional soybean varieties are used to express transgenic cp4-epsps in the presence of Bradyrhizobium japonicum and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. It is found that the variation is significantly associated with the genetic modification.
