Effects of imposed salinity gradients on dissimilatory arsenate reduction, and other microbial processes in sediments from two California soda lakes
Article Abstract:
Salinity effects on microbial community structure and on potential rates of arsenate reduction, arsenite oxidation, sulfate reduction, denitrification, and methanogenesis are examined in sediments slurries from two California soda lakes. The results suggest that organisms adapted to more dilute conditions remains viable at high salinity and rapidly repopulate the lake during periods of rising lake level.

Effect of temperature on anaerobic ethanol oxidation and methanogenesis in acidic peat from a northern wetland
Article Abstract:
The effects of temperature on rates and pathways of CH4 production and on the abundance and structure of the archaeal community are examined in acidic peat from mire in northern Scandinavia. The results have shown that the ethanol pool was oxidized to acetate by syntrophic oxidation with methanogenesis as an H2 sink and as a reductant for Fe(III).
