Elevated temperature enhances virulence of Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora strain EC153 to plants and stimulates production of the quorum sensing signal, N-acyl homoserine lactone, and extracellular proteins
Article Abstract:
Two Erwinia caratovora subsp. strains that produce elevated levels of extracellular enzymes or N-acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) were compared and analyzed of their responses to elevated temperatures. It is concluded that the inhibition of exoenzyme production at elevated temperatures in most E. carotovora subspecies is atleast partially due to mRNA decay promoted by elevated levels of RsmA.

Genomic diversity of Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora and its correlation with virulence
Article Abstract:
Genetic and biochemical methods are used to examine the genomic density of the enterobacterial plant pathogen Erwina carotovora subsp. Carotovora. The results obtained with each method showed that E. carotovora subsp. Carotovora strains isolated from one ecological niche, potato plants, are surprisingly diverse compared to related pathogens.

Ultrastructural alterations of Erwinia carotovora subsp. acroseptica caused by treatment with aluminum chloride and sodium metabisulfite
Article Abstract:
The bacterial ultrastructural alterations that occur in response to exposure of bacterial cells to aluminum chloride and sodium metabisulfite are discussed. The exposure of Erwinia carotovora subsp. atroseptica to aluminum chloride and sodium metabisulfite at concentrations of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 m resulted in high mortality.
