Energetics and reproductive effort
Article Abstract:
Human reproductive physiology displays characteristic patterns that can be viewed as mechanisms that help optimize reproductive effort in the face of environmental energetic constraints. Reproductive effort during gestation is highly buffered from environmental energetic constraints, but the duration of gestation and final birthweight are both very sensitive to maternal energy availability.

How to measure reproductive success?
Article Abstract:
Measures of reproductive success play an important role in human behavioral ecology, but sometimes lack rigor or are subject to hidden biases. The strengths and weaknesses of alternative methods for measuring reproductive success are discussed.
