Epithelial-Mesenchymal transitions: twist in development and metastasis
Article Abstract:
Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transitions (EMT) is vital for morphogenesis during embryonic development and is implicated in the conversion of early stage tumors into invasive malignancies. The recent addition of Twist in EMT provides not only a new player but also some of the best evidence to date for a specific role of EMT in the movement of cells from a primary tumor into the circulation.

Bacterial adhesion and entry into host cells
Article Abstract:
Some of the most remarkable strategies used by bacterial pathogens to adhere, and in some cases invade, nonphagocytic epithelial cells within their hosts are discussed. Pathogenic bacteria have involved incredibly large and diverse array of adhesion and invasion molecules that enlarge them to exploit a variety of host-cell components and occupy different niches within the human body.

Cell shape in proliferating epithelia: A multifaceted problem
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to understand a specific and unexpected distribution pattern of polygonal cell shapes in proliferating wingdisc epithelium of Drosophila. The experimental data from mathematical modeling reveal that the pattern is conserved in epithelia from diverse species, suggesting that the distribution is a fundamental property of proliferating epithelial sheets.
