Hypothesis testing in evolutionary developmental biology: A case study from insect wings
Article Abstract:
Ancestral similarities in developmental patterning can be difficult to distinguish from similarities that result from convergent co-option of developmental networks, which appears to be common in developmental evolution. These competing explanations for similarity are evaluated using a case study from insect wings.

The genetics of adaptive coat color in Gophers: coding variation at Mc1r is not responsible for dorsal color differences
Article Abstract:
The entire melanocortin-1 receptor locus (Mc1r) was cloned and sequenced to examine the genetic basis of coat color variation in Thomomys bottae. It was felt that there was no association between Mc1r variation and coat color variation, contrasting to other vertebrates.

Parallel evolution of Pitx I underlies pelvic reduction in Scottish threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus)
Article Abstract:
Studies reveal that Pitx1 locus underlie the pelvic reduction in a Scottish population of threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) that has evolved pelvic reduction due to a different selection regime other than the population of North America.
