Estimation of levels of gene flow from DNA sequence data
Article Abstract:
Two methods of estimating gene flow were compared using computer-generated data for DNA sequence. The first method estimates gene flow from the frequency of the alleles for particular loci at specific geographic locations. The second method computes for the least number of migrations required to recreate a gene tree inferred from nucleotide sequences. Results show that when recombination is omitted, the second method provided a better estimate of gene flow. However, when there is recombination, the first method yields more satisfactory results.

Gene trees, species trees and the segregation of ancestral allele
Article Abstract:
An analysis of a previously calculated probability, denoted by 1-P(T), is given. This expressioncalculates the probability for obtaining incorrect phylogenetic information forthree species due to segregation of ancient polymorphisms. In the situations wherein one does not distinguish or does distinguish derived and ancestral states of the sampled genes, the results of the probability relationships are not valid.

Deleterious background selection with recombination
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate the expression for the expected nucleotide diversity for a neutral locus in a region with deleterious mutation and recombination. It focused on predicting levels of variation for the entire third chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster. The results showed consistent low levels of variation at the loci near the centromeres of the third chromosome of D. melanogaster.
