Evening flights of female Northern Pintails from a major roost site
Article Abstract:
Monitoring the evening flights of female Northern Pintails from a roost site shows that flight distance and duration increase with date during the wintering period. The age differences in the flight distance and duration are inconsistent between the winters. The departure of females is 12 minutes later on clear moonlit evenings than on overcast and moonless evenings, and four minutes later when winds are light rather than heavy. The flight parameters such as distance, duration and departure time are independent of hunting and non-hunting time periods.

Nesting success of Northern Pintails on the coastal Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Alaska
Article Abstract:
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in Alaska, a major breeding area for Northern Pintails, was considered to evaluate nesting success for the waterfowl. Average nesting success of pintails in the area was higher compared to interior Alaska or the prairies. Lower nesting success was attributed to increased predation pressure due to decreasing prey options. Average clutch size was greater for coastal pintails than their interior and prairie counterparts.

Variation in egg size of the northern pintail
Article Abstract:
Egg size variation in Northern Pintails is examined in terms of female egg, body size, clutch size, year and other variables to determine possible relationships between phenotypic clutch and egg size. Pintail mean egg size measurements fail to show egg volume variation for nesting pintails. High repeatability of female egg volume shows inability to change egg size, which indicates a consistent phenotypic egg size.
