Evidence for a role for the gumB and gumC gene products in the formation of xanthan from its pentasaccharide repeating unit by Xanthomonas campestris
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to test whether the gumB and gumC gene products play a critical role in the formation of xanthan from its pentasaccharide repeating unit by Xanthomonas campestris. Polymerase chain reaction was utilized to determine subclones of the gum gene clusters. Supernatants were hydrolyzed at pH 2 to eliminate excesses of sugar nucleotide donors. Results indicated the involvement of both the gene products in the translocation of xanthan across bacterial membranes.

ctsR of Lactococcus lactis encodes a negative regulator of clp gene expression
Article Abstract:
Research reveals that Lactococcus lactis synthesizes a 17 kilodalton protein which exhibits 38% similarity to the negative transcriptional regulator ctsR of Bacillus subtilis. Results indicate that ctsR protein regulates heat-shock-induced gene expression in both the species and other Gram-positive bacteria.

Novel genes involved in the regulation of pathogenicity factor production within the rpf gene cluster of Xanthomonas campestris
Article Abstract:
Research shows that the gene of the pathogenicity regulation factors cluster is located within a 21.9 kb region of the bacterial chromosome. Data further point out that the cluster is involved in the synthesis of extracellular enzymes and changes in its levels do not affect pathogenicity.
