Evolution of the mouse H-2K region: a hot spot of mutation associated with genes transcribed in embryos and/or germ cells
Article Abstract:
The mouse t-complex resides in the proximal end of chromosome 17 and codes for genes of the major histocompatibility complex. This complex also contains the H-2K region, a segment which is actively transcribed in germ cells and early embryos. Restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses were conducted on the H-2K and flanking regions and on a homologous, duplicated region in a panel of t-haplotypes and inbred strains. The results showed that the DNA flanking the actively transcribed H2-K region is highly polymorphic, while the duplicated region is not.

Female phenotypic expression on natural genetic backgrounds and in natural environments
Article Abstract:
Wild types of Drosophila mercatorium were studied to determine if abnormal abdomen was expressed under natural conditions. Statistical analysis was used to analyze life-history data used as a measure of gene expression. Variations in fecundity were observed to differ depending on the time of sampling. Differences in fecundity disappeared after 1.5 weeks and survivorship was higher in males, although no differences were noted between males of the two stocks. Significant differences were noted in the emergence time of males and females.
