Evolutionary genetics: Fight or flinch?
Article Abstract:
The genetics of the two responses, tolerance and resistance in wild plants to cope with infectious disease, are discussed. van der Meijden et al proposed in 1988 that resistance and tolerance are alternative strategies to cope with antagonists, but trade-offs between them are difficult to detect and the evidence is distinctly mixed.

Generic variation and covariation for resistance and tolerance to Cucumber mosaic virus in Mimulus guttatus (Phrymaceae): A test for costs and constraints
Article Abstract:
Genetic variation and covaration for and among performance, resistance and tolerance traits in Mimulus guttatus challenged with a generalist pathogen, Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), is measured. Phenotypic variation is found for both tolerance of and resistance to the strain of CMV, but both display very low narrow-sense heritability.

The distribution of individual inbreeding coefficients and pairwise relatedness in a population of Mimulus guttatus
Article Abstract:
In this article the individual plant genetic structure of a partially self-fertilizing population of Mimulus guttatus is examined. Results reveal that the mean individual inbreeding coefficient is similar to the population-level estimate and mean genetic relatedness between individuals is not dependent on the interplant distance.
