Expression of the eicosapentaenoic acid synthesis gene cluster from Shewanella sp. in a transgenic marine cyanobacterium, Synechococcus sp
Article Abstract:
Metabolic engineering research has developed a gene clone of the eicosapentaenoic acid synthesis gene cluster from the bacterium Shewanella putrefaciens strain SCRC-2738 and expressed the gene in the marine cyanobacterium Synechococcus species. The cloning technique involved the use of broad-host-range cosmid vector pJRD215 to create plasmid pJRDEPA. Cyanobacterial transconjugants were grown at 23 degrees centigrade and incubated at 17 degrees centigrade for 24 hours.

Assembly of G protein-coupled receptors onto nanosized bacterial magnetic particles using Mms16 as an anchor molecule
Article Abstract:
GPCRs have been successfully assembled into the lipid membrane of nanosized bacterial magnetic particles (BMPs) produced by the magnetic bacterium magnetospirllum magneticum AMB-1. The system conveniently refines the native conformation of GPCRs without the need for detergent solubilization, purification, and reconstruction after cell desruption.

Design and application of a new cryptic-plasmid-based shuttle vector for Magnetospirillum magneticum
Article Abstract:
This article describes the development of a shuttle vector, pUMG, from a 3.7-kilobase cryptic plasmid, pMGT, discovered in Magnetospirillum magneticum. The shuttle vector is an improved expression system than that of pMGT constructed in M. magneticum strain AMB-1.
