Fitness advantage and cytoplasmic incompatibility in Wolbachia single- and superinfected Aedes albopictus
Article Abstract:
Cytoplasmic incompatibility (CI) levels , longevity, egg hatch rate and fecundity in strains of Aedes albopictus (Asian Tiger Mosquito) that are uninfected, single-infected and superinfected are examined. It is found that relative to uninfected females, infected females are at a reproductive advantage due to both cytoplasmic incompatibility and a fitness increase associated with Wolbachia infection and in contrast, no fitness difference is observed in comparisons of single and superinfected females.

Population structure of Aedes albopictus from La Reunion Island (Indian Ocean) with respect to susceptibility to a dengue virus
Article Abstract:
The population structure of Aedes albopictus, or Asian tiger mosquito, of La Reunion Island (Indian Ocean) has been studied relative to susceptibility to a dengue virus. Results have implications for vector ecology, dengue transmission, and patterns of migration. Two distinct geographical areas were defined by infection rate data. Genetic differentiation was seen to come from ecological factors and the biological characteristics of the insect.

Population structure of Aedes albopictus (Skuse): the mosquito which is colonizing Mediterranean countries
Article Abstract:
The population structure of the mosquito which is colonizing Mediterranean countries is discussed. Aedes albopictus (Skuse) was studied using multilocus electrophoresis analysis. Eighteen populations of the mosquito newly introduced to Italy were studied. They were compared to two US, four Indonesian and four Japanese populations. At polymorphic loci, deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were not found.
