Functional requirement of p23 and Hsp90 in telomerase complexes
Article Abstract:
Research shows that the telomerase-associated proteins p23 and Hsp90 contribute directly to telomerase activity. Prevention of p23 and Hsp90 interaction with the catalytic telomerase subunit interferes with in vitro assembly of active telomerase. A significant portion of cell extract active telomerase is associated with the two proteins. These findings support p23 and Hsp90 impact on telomerase activity.

Inhibition of early apoptotic events by Akt/PKB is dependent on the first committed step of glycolysis and mitochondrial hexokinase
Article Abstract:
Research shows that coupling of glucose metabolism to oxidative phosphorylation is mediated by the serine/threonine kinase Akt/PKB. Data indicate that inhibition of apoptosis is mediated by preserving the mitochondrial integrity through voltage-dependent anion channel protein binding hexokinase, which in turn couples intramitochondrial ATP synthesis to glucose metabolism.

Putative telomere-independent mechanisms of replicative aging reflect inadequate growth conditions
Article Abstract:
Research shows that growth arrest in cell cultures of skin keratinocytes and breast epithelial cells are due to inadequacy of the growth media. Data indicate that cultivating telomerase active cells on feeder layers eliminates such growth inhibition.
