Genetic differences in male development time among populations of the endangered Gila topminnow
Article Abstract:
The timing of male sexual maturity was compared in a common laboratory environment for populations from the four watersheds in which the Gila topminnow (Peociliopsis o. occidentalis) are still found in Arizona. The Monkey Spring population was observed to have about 50% later development of male sexual maturity. Monkey was the only population whose natural habitat has both constant and warm, year-round temperature and year-round production.
