Genetic population structure and gene flow in the Atlantic code Gadus morhua: a comparison of allozyme and nuclear RFLP loci
Article Abstract:
A comparative study of types of variation at 10 allozyme loci with 17 nuclear restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) loci helps analyze the influence of gene flow and selection in determining the limited population structure in the Atlantic Cod, Gadus morhua. Population size of the Atlantic cod has experienced a recent expansion. The level of population differentiation observed at weakly polymorphic loci is forced by a recent origin of cod population, and distribution of protein variation among natural populations in Atlantic cod is influenced by selection.

Heteroplasmy of short tandem repeats in mitochondrial DNA of Atlantic cod, Gadus morhua
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the heteroplasmy and length variation of the Atlantic cod's mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) shows the fish are heteroplasmic for at least two mtDNAs. The analysis also indicates that deterministic dynamics are responsible for the existence of the length polymorphism. An hierarchical analysis was made of differences in mtDNA length variation within and among samples of individual fish and among different localities. The samples were gathered from Iceland and George's Bank.

Competition between mitochondrial haplotypes in distinct nuclear genetic environments: Drosophila pseudoobscura vs. D. persimilis
Article Abstract:
The sibling species Drosophila pseudoobscura and Drosophila persimilis were used to test for genome coadaptation for nuclear and mitochondrial cases. The test involved repeated backcrossing with flies possessing disrupted cytonuclear genotypes. The Drosophila pseudoobscura mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) type displayed a strong fitness advantage on its nuclear foundation, indicating a relationship between nuclear fertility factors and its mtDNA.
