Identification and characterization of di- and tripeptide transporter DtpT of Listeria monocytogenes EGD-e
Article Abstract:
The dtpT gene of Listeria monocytogenes EGD-e, encoding the di- and tripeptide transporter is identified and characterized and its role in growth under various environmental conditions is assessed. The protective effect of glycine- and proline-containing peptides during growth in defined medium containing 3% NaCl is noted only in Listeria monocytogenes EGD-e, not in the DELTAdtpT mutant strain.

Suitability of the prfA gene, which encodes a regulator of virulence genes in Listeria monocytogenes, in the identification of pathogenic Listeria spp.
Article Abstract:
Another genetic marker for the identification of the pathogenic Listeria species was discovered. This nucleotide probe, the prfA gene, was tested in itssuitability as genetic marker using colony hybridization experiment and polymerase chain reaction amplification. Analyses of results show prfA gene specificity in its identification of pathogenic Listeria species.

The alternative sigma factor [[sigma].sup.B] and the virulence gene regulator PrfA both regulate transcription of Listeria monocytogenes internalins
Article Abstract:
The relative contributions of PrfA and [[sigma].sup.B] to internalin genes transcription of Listeria monocytogenes measured by reverse transcription-PCR suggests that the environmental stress conditions encountered by the organism in the gastrointestinal tract might activate internalin transcription.
