Genomic and proteomic analyses of the agarolytic system expressed by Saccharophagus degradans 2-40
Article Abstract:
Traditional genomic library screens and protein expression coupled with bioinformatic analysis of the genome sequence and proteomics are used to identify five agarases encoded by Saccharophagus degradans 2-40. The agarolytic system of S. degradans 2-40 is predicted to be composed of a secreted endo-acting GH16-dependent depolymerase, a surface-associated GH50-dependent depolymerase, an exo-acting GH86-dependent agarase, and an alpha-neoagarobiose hydrolase to release galactose from agarose.

Functional analysis of Burkholderia cepacia genes bceD and bceF, encoding a phosphotyrosine phosphatase and a tyrosine autokinase, respectively: Role in exopolysaccharide biosynthesis and biofilm formation
Article Abstract:
The sequence analysis of a chromosomal region inside the bce gene cluster from the mucoid clinical isolate Burkholderia cepacia IST408 is presented. The size of the biofilm produced in vitro by bceD and bceF mutant strains is found to be smaller than the size of the biofilm formed by the parental strain, thus showing that BceD and BceF play a vital role in the establishment of biofilms of maximal size.

Determination of glycosyltransferase specificities for the Escherichia coli O111 O antigen by a generic approach
Article Abstract:
A bacterial strain is developed to facilitate the determination of glycosyltransferase (GT) specificities for O antigens of known structure and gene cluster sequence. The strain is used for determining the specificity of the Escherichia coli O111 O-antigen GT genes.
